about the name, Katsí

Katsí is the moon. she hovers over the night sky with her sister, Atabey, the supreme Goddess of the Taino people. Like my ancestors, I feel her flow in the sky, the tides, the sacred cycles of my womb. She connects me to my creativity, my people, my land. I met Katsí in a book of puerto rican folktales. I choose to bring her name forward in my art as I continue to center my decolonization journey.

FAQs

  • You can use it just like lotion or face oil for moisturizing the skin or pour it in your bath for extra luxury and a nice smell. It can also be used to bring some ritual and ceremony into your life by using it to connect with your body- after a bath or shower, massage the oil into your skin all over with reverence and love to receive the medicine of the herb.

  • Squeeze a few drops, up to a dropperful, under your tongue when you want to receive the medicine of the herb. Tinctures are medicine, best used when you develop a relationship with the plant and with your body.

  • Vaginal steaming is an ancient practice to bring warmth and medicine to your whole pelvic area. You can steam your vagina anytime in your cycle when you are NOT bleeding. Bring 5 teaspoons of herbs in a pot of water to boil, turn heat to low, simmer with lid on for 15-20 min, then let cool until steam is a comfy temperature for your body. Sit or stand over the steam for 10-30min. Learn more here.

  • It is normal for the liquid and semi-liquid products to have variations in color and texture, and to separate. Shake liquid products before use, and stir semi-solid products with a fork whenever separation occurs to re-mix. You will have to come directly in contact with your body to use many of these products- that’s normal and good! The products all have a very subtle scent- you might still smell your body’s natural scent as well as the herb- again, that’s normal and good!
